At VALLNORD we understand that it’s important to reach a balance between the economical, social and environmental objectives under the concept of sustainable development, given that our activity prospers thanks to the tourists that visit us attracted by the existence of the natural attractions that we must conserve in good condition, without exhausting, reducing or modifying them. That’s why it is necessary to follow a strategy based on the principles of respecting and protecting the natural environment, adopting preventative and responsible attitudes that minimise the impact on the environment and increase the quality of the product or tourist service offered (in our case, enjoying the snow and the mountains).
VALLNORD, with the aim of contributing to the sustainability objective, has established a series of actions, among which we can highlight:
RATIONAL USE OF RESOURCES:
- We have built artificial ponds to collect rainwater and melted snow that do not harm the aquatic fauna.
- We respect the ecological flows of the rivers in the catchment areas;
- We use water efficiently in buildings;
- We have installed condensers to absorb the reactive energy in ski lifts;
- We have completely computerised the artificial snow network to reduce the consumption of electricity.
IMPACT MINIMISATION ON THE LAND:
- We repair roads; we sow and fertilise pistes as a means of preventing land erosion and maintaining the layer of vegetation;
- We condition the river beds;
- We are careful to reduce the visual impact;
INCREASING RECYCLING AND SELECTIVE COLLECTION:
- We manage waste in accordance with the Government of Andorra National Plan for waste, carrying out selective collection, separation and identification, and later delivering it to the authorized managers;
- We treat highly polluting waste in a specific way following the regulations in force, carrying out strict monitoring and trying to use biodegradable oils;
ENVIRONMENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND AWARENESS:
- We support our environmental commitment not limiting it to just our own activities but also involving our suppliers and/or outsourcers;
- Together with the Honorable Común of Ordino and La Massana, as well as the Ordino (ECOA) and la Massana (ECAP) skiing clubs, we annually organise a clean up of the woods and pistes with groups of young people as a means of sharing the principles of respecting and protecting the natural environment.
