Acquired in 1972 by the General Council of Los Valles, this museum offers an authentic trip back in time. The house recreates the history of the different generations of the Areny-Plandolit family, representing a period spanning more than three centuries, a time from which all kinds of objects and features have been preserved. The keystone above the door dates back to 1633, but the oldest structure is a beam from 1613.
This combined house and museum opened its doors to the public in 1986. Since then, more than a hundred thousand visitors have been able to relive scenes from the day-to-day life of Andorra's only noble family of the last century.
The museum is home to objects of ethnographic value and many tools commonly used in Andorra in the 18 th and 19 th centuries. There is also a reproduction of a photographic laboratory containing objects from the start of the century.
The house has three floors. The cellars, the woodsheds and the stable are on the lower floor. Upon entering, visitors will see harnesses and mounting seats for ladies. The “wineskin” cellar is a testimony to the existence of vineyards and the production of wine in Andorra in the past.
The cellar also contains drums in which oil arrived from Spain during the Civil War.
The first floor of the museum is home to the dining room, the kitchen, the library, the bedrooms, the chapel, the weapons room and the noble room.
The museum contains fascinating objects of value, such as two sets of chinaware, various items for the practice of fencing and boxing, plus many Modernist elements (furniture, lamps).
The building's walls bear pictures of the members of the family, such as a portrait of the Baron of Senaller, Guillem de Areny-Plandolit, Andorra's "trustee" in the middle of the last century and one of those who promoted the New Reform of 1866.
